Calls for freedom never go unnoticed. Several students and refugees from Burma gathered at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on Thursday, June 19, 2009, to celebrate the 64th birthday of the great leader of Burmese democracy - Aung San Suu Kyi -- amid chants of "may God bless aunty Suu Kyi" and "killer military junta down down!"

This celebration to mark Suu Kyi's birthday has become an annual show of resistance for the Burmese people all over the world who have been reeling under years of authoritarian military rule inside Burma where all forms of dissent or democratic expression is banned, and peaceful protests are crushed by brutal repression, elimination, disappearances and imprisonments through faceless kangaroo courts.
