Mob goes on rampage after a woman accuses four Delhi policemen of rape
Hardnews Bureau Delhi
Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit has ordered the Delhi Commission for women (DCW) to investigate into the 'alleged' gang rape charge by a woman in Inderpuri Police station in south-west Delhi. She said that if such a thing happened it is 'shameful'.
A woman in south-west Delhi has accused the Inderpuri Station House Officer (SHO) and four other policemen for rape on Tuesday, leading to stone pelting on the Police station by angry protesters.
After hearing of the news about 100 protesters gathered outside the police station and pelted stones on Tuesday. Adequate troupes were deployed in the area to keep the situation under control.
The victim, who lives in a nearby slum, alleged that she was taken to the police station on Monday night for an enquiry regarding her husband, who was suspected to be involved in gambling. The SHO and four others sexually assaulted her there and threatened her of consequences if she revealed it to anyone, she claimed.
She was later taken to the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital by her husband where doctors asked her to file a police complaint. Delhi police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat has refused to comment till the medical report of the 'victim' is ready. Her statement was recorded by the crime branch after she approached them.
Several such incidents where policemen have been involved in such heinous crimes have surfaced in the past and the government should take stringent action against the accused.
