Mohan Bhagwat asserts he is not in race for President's post

Nagpur:  Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat today refuted reports that he is in race for President asserting that these were rumours and it is never going to happen.

"There are some rumours in the media about me wanting to become president, which is never going to happen. I am here to work for RSS and the rumours spread by the media will always remain rumours. I am not in race for President." Bhagwat told mediapersons here.

Bhagwat’s assertion came days after the Shiv Sena proposed his name for the presidential elections scheduled in July, saying the dream of a Hindu rashtra would be fulfilled with the RSS chief at the helm of the nation.

Bhagwat, however, said he would not accept the post of President even if he was offered it and added he would like to continue his work at the RSS.

President Pranab Mukherjee’s term comes to an end in July and there is speculation that the Narendra Modi government would look for a fresh face for the nation’s highest post.

BJP’s recent victory in Uttar Pradesh has apparently stacked the numbers in the electoral college in the favour of the government.

The electoral college comprises 776 parliamentarians and 4,120 legislators. Its total strength is 10,98,882 votes and the halfway mark is 5,49,442 votes. The NDA is just short by 25,000 votes a gap that seems can be easily bridged by smaller parties such as the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.
