Tarak Mehta passes away
Ahmedabad: Veteran humorist and author Tarak Mehta passed away today here after prolonged illness. He was 88. He is survived by his second wife Indu and daughter from first wife Ishani.
Mehta’s family has decided to donate his body to the local medical college as his wish. Mehta was bestowed with Padma Shri and a number of other awards. He wrote a humour column for a leading Gujarati magazine for last 45 years. The TV serial based on his writings ‘Tarak Mehta Ka Ulta Chashma’ became a hit comedy serial. Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, paying tribute to the writer tweeted, "Saddened by the death of Tarak Mehta, humorist and columnist. He always brought smile to our faces. My condolences to the family members."
Born in 1929, Mehta passed matriculation in 1945. He passed BA with Gujarati as his subject. He was felicitated with Padmashri award in 2015. He worked with the Films Division of the government of India during 1960-86. Besides his humour column in a leading Gujarati magazine, he had also written his autobiography ‘Action Replay’. He was living in Ahmedabad for the past 17 years with his second wife.
