Ajay Maken to resign as DPCC Chief
New Delhi: Accepting responsibility for the poor show by the Congress in the MCD polls, where the party was relegated to the third spot, Delhi Congress chief Ajay Maken today announced that he would resign as DPCC chief. Talking to reporters here, Maken said, "I take responsibility for the defeat of the Congress and I am going to resign as Delhi Congress President.’’ Maken said that after the party’s debacle in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls in Delhi and in the 2015 Assembly elections, where the party failed to win a single seat, he had made efforts to win back the traditional vote-bank of the party over the last two years. "Over the last two years, we had made efforts to win back the traditional vote-bank of the Congress. We have made a reasonable comeback. However, I had hoped to do better in the MCD polls. So I accept the responsibility for the party's defeat in the MCD polls,’’ said Maken. He further added that for one year he will not take up any post in the party. The trends for the counting of votes for the MCD polls showed the Congress relegated to the third spot behind the Aam Aadmi Party.
