‘Unprovoked’ firing leaves woman dead, soldier injured in two Kashmir Loc districts

New Delhi:  A series of ceasefire violation and shelling by Pakistan in two differed parts of Kashmir on Saturday has left a soldier wounded and civilian dead. After militants opened fire on an Army building late Friday night in Kalaroos in frontier district of Kupwara, Sunil Randhawa of the 17 Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry (JAKLI) sustained injuries, defence ministry spokesman, Col Rajesh Kalia told UNI.

On Saturday morning in Poonch district, a woman was killed following a ceasefire violation and shelling by Pakistan. Police sources said that the woman, Raqia Bi, a resident of Kallarian Gohlad, died on the spot when Pakistani shell hit at her residence. The soldier, Randhawa, however, was immediately taken to the hospital where doctors declared his stable.

"Pakistani Army initiated unprovoked and indiscriminate firing of small arms, automatics and mortars from 5:15 AM in Poonch sector along the Line of Control (LC)," defence spokesperson, Lt Colonel Manish Mehta said. He added that the Indian army retaliated with force and the firing was stopped at 6:45 AM.

 In the Tral area of South Kashmir, district of Pulwama, the Army on Saturday morning, called off a search operation for infiltrators who managed to escape to POK. The search operation was launched Friday evening following a tip off about the presence of militants, including Zakir Musa self-styled commander of Al-Qaeda.
