Two days after the completion of voting in the Karnataka Assembly Elections, a meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national office bearers and state presidents began on Monday. Organisational and political issues, along with preparations for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections were discussed in the meeting.

AICC president Rahul Gandhi today said that the BJP is unlikely to form the next government at the Centre and indicated that in the event of Congress coming back to power, he could be the next Prime Minister.

Speaking at ‘Samruddha Bharat,’ an independent platform to promote liberal, secular and republican values, he said if the Opposition, led by the Congress, joins hands in the next Lok Sabha elections in 2019, the BJP will be wiped out. “Besides, it is next to impossible that Narendra Modi can become Prime Minister again. It is already showing on his face,” he said.

Going back on its previous statement, the Janata Dal (Secular) which had earlier claimed that it would be the king and not a kingmaker post Karnataka Assembly election, said on May 7 that in the event of a fractured mandate, it might examine the possibility of a coalition government with a precursor that its manifesto should be implemented in toto.

In his order rejecting the impeachment notice, the Vice-President said that the allegations were not sound enough to make a case which can lead one to conclude that the CJI was guilty of misbehaviour.

Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu on Monday said he had rejected the impeachment notice against Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra signed by 64 Opposition MPs on the ground that the five allegations were “neither tenable nor admissibile.”

The BJP said on Tuesday that Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and party president Rahul Gandhi will have to apologise to the Hindu community of India for defaming them globally and taking Hindus for granted.

Addressing a press conference, party’s spokesperson Sambit Patra and GVL Narasimha Rao said, “BJP has demanded apology from Sonia and Rahul (on behalf of) the country for coining the term ‘Hindu terrorism’ and ‘saffron terrorism.’”
