'Geopolitics of oil, crisis in West Asia and its impact on India'

A seminar on the important topic of the 'Geopolitics of oil, crisis in West Asia and its impact on India' at a time when oil prices are plummetting and the Western sanctions being lifted on Iran, was held on Wednesday at the India International Centre in the capital. The event jointly organised by Hardnews Magazine, which is celebrating 12 years of its publication and the India International Centre was attended by senior diplomats including Gholamreza Ansari, the Iranian envoy in Delhi, Augusto Montiel, the ambassador of Venezuela, Riad Abbas, the Syrian ambassador, Parakhat H Durdyev, the ambassador of Turkmenistan, Adnan Abu Alhaijaa, the Palestinian envoy, and the High Commissioner of Cyprus among others.

There was also an eclectic mix of serving and retired senior officials of the Government of India, members of the academia, media and the civil society including Arvind Mayaram, the former Finance Secretary, Saurabh Chandra, the former petroleum secretary, Saumen Bagchi, Joint Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs, Marc Saxer, Representative of Frederich E Stiftung, Prof Aftab Kamal Pasha from the JNU, and Ambassador Sheelkanth Sharma. The three panels were moderated by Suhasini Haider, foreign affairs editor of The Hindu, Zorawar Daulet Singh, a fellow at King's College and senior journalist MK Venu.
