Huge consignments of liquor seized, six peddlers arrested in Bihar

Patna:  In the continuing drive against trans-border smuggling of liquor into ‘dry’ Bihar, police seized huge consignments of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and arrested six liquor peddlers in Rohtas, Bhojpur and Darbhanga districts today. 

While 300 cartons of foreign liquor were seized in Rohtas district, 133 cartons in Bhojpur district and 83 bottles in Darbhanga district.

A Sasaram report said that a team of Economic Offence Unit (EOU) from Patna with the cooperation of police personnel from Model police station seized more than 3,500 bottles of foreign liquor being smuggled from Hayana when the consignment was being off loaded from a truck in Fazalganj locality.

The truck driver, cleaner and a liquor peddler were arrested from the spot.

While the truck driver and cleaner are natives of Haryana, the liquor peddler is from Sasaram.

A report said that police seized 133 cartons of foreign liquor from a truck near Koelwar bridge under Koelwar police station area in Bhojpur district.

Two liquor peddlers - Bittu Tiwari from Barisvan village and Raju Yadav from Sonwarsha village - were nabbed from the spot.

The truck driver made good his escape by dodging the police.

Police recovered a pistol and some live cartridges from the truck.

Bootleggers during interrogation disclosed that they were carrying the consignment of foreign liquor from Jharkhand.

A Darbhanga report said that police seized 83 bottles of foreign liquor from Pathan Kawai village under Manigachhi police station area in the district following a tip off.

Police nabbed a liquor peddler Jitendra Kamati from the spot.
