Japan open doors for Indian IT professionals

Japan is seeking Indian IT professionals to look eastwards with an immediate requirement of over 200,000 professionals and the number might swell to 800,000 by 2030.With shrinking work permits for Indian IT professionals in the US and Europe, the Japanese demand has come as a sweetener.

Delivering the keynote address at an India-Japanese Business Partnership summit here on Thursday, JETRO Executive Vice President Shigeki Maeda, galore said: “Currently there are around 9,20,000 IT professionals in the country and there is an immediate demand for more than 200,000 IT professionals from India which is likely to further swell to 8,00,000 professionals by 2030.

This is being necessitated due to the advent of rapid technological innovations in the societal needs in country.
Japan wants to fill in this yawning gap and is looking towards India’s assistance in the IT space. Many Japanese companies feel the limitations to conventional “in-house innovation” and hence moving towards “most-advanced IT Technology Capabilities” for which India is the most ideal partner to look out for.”
He said “Japan known for its manufacturing prowess, is on the road to adapt and adopt Innovation and emerging technologies to revolutionise its manufacturing methodology.

Due to this conscientious process, there is a dearth of well qualified and trained IT professionals to enhance its competitiveness particularly in the areas of life-science, finance, services and agriculture.”
Maeda said: “The Japanese Government will be issuing Green Cards for highly skilled professionals, the first of its kind in the world thereby providing people to get permanent resident status in as short as one year. This is one of the fastest granted right of residence in the world.”

Inviting Indian companies to set up shops in Japan Shigeki Maeda, said: “Japan has become the third largest investor for India – after to Mauritius and Singapore. There is a massive presence of Japanese Companies in India which is around 1400 representing diverse sectors viz., Machine Tools, Automotive and Automotive Components, Electrical and Electronics to name a few. In terms of volume of business, Japan ranks first.

Considering the huge flow of investments, JETRO, the Official agency for Trade and Investment in Japan, has recently opened its fifth office in Ahmedabad which once again reinforces the opportunities for growing bilateral trade between the two big Asian behemoths.

Sensing the need for R&D Innovation in the manufacturing sector, Japan is establishing R&D Centres in India capitalising on the huge availability of technical manpower coupled with rich expertise which is available aplenty in India. Companies such as Panasonic, Toshiba, Hitachi etc., have already initiated their process in this regard.
